What Is Reiki and What Can You Expect From a Reiki Session?

If you’ve heard of Reiki but aren’t quite sure what actually happens during a session, you’re definitely not alone. Reiki is becoming increasingly popular as people look for gentle ways to slow down, relax and take some time away from the pressures of everyday life.
At Cassini Beauty & Treatment Rooms in Stourbridge, Reiki forms part of our holistic approach to beauty and wellbeing – recognising that sometimes feeling good is about more than what we can see on the outside.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle complementary therapy originating in Japan. During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner uses their hands either lightly on the body or just above it, with the aim of encouraging relaxation and a sense of balance and wellbeing.
There’s no massage involved and you remain fully clothed throughout the treatment.
People choose Reiki for many different reasons. Some simply enjoy the deep relaxation it can bring, while others use their session as an opportunity to switch off, reset and enjoy some much-needed quiet time.
What happens during a Reiki session?
If you’ve never experienced Reiki before, there’s really nothing you need to prepare for.
You’ll usually lie comfortably on a treatment bed while I work around different areas of the body. You simply close your eyes, relax and allow yourself some time where absolutely nothing is expected of you.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently. Some people notice sensations such as warmth or tingling, some become incredibly relaxed or even fall asleep, while others simply enjoy feeling still and peaceful.
There is no “right” way to experience Reiki.
Why do people choose Reiki?
Modern life can be incredibly busy. We spend so much time doing, organising, thinking and looking after everyone else that taking time to simply stop can feel like a luxury.
That is one of the things I love about Reiki.
It creates a space where you can step away from everything for a while and focus entirely on yourself. Many people leave their session feeling deeply relaxed, calmer and refreshed.
Reiki is a complementary therapy rather than a medical treatment, so it isn’t intended to diagnose or treat health conditions. However, it can be a lovely addition to your general self-care and wellbeing routine.
Reiki and holistic beauty
For me, holistic beauty isn't just about how we look.
It's about recognising the connection between taking care of ourselves physically and giving ourselves time to rest mentally and emotionally too.
That’s why treatments such as Reiki sit so naturally alongside holistic facials and other wellbeing treatments at Cassini Beauty & Treatment Rooms.
You might visit one week because your skin needs some attention and another because you need some attention.
Both are forms of self-care.
